Week-by-week module breakdown

Your Exam FM plan walks the syllabus module-by-module before transitioning into review and mock phases. Phase: Review
Weeks 9–11

Review

Weak-topic drilling. exclam.ai surfaces topics where you underperformed during coverage and re-quizzes them. Daily FSRS flashcard reps across all 8 topics to prevent decay. Start doing timed question batches focused on the heaviest-weight sections.

Phase: Mocks
Weeks 12–14

Mocks

Full-length Exam FM practice exams under timed conditions. Target one mock every 3–5 days. Same-day error review: for every question you miss, re-derive the solution from scratch. Taper in the final 3 days — light flashcards only.

Exam FM questions

Should I take Exam P or Exam FM first?

Either order works. Exam P is more theoretical (probability); Exam FM is more applied (financial math). Many candidates take P first because it is a prerequisite perspective for later exams. Others take FM first because the pass rate is slightly higher and builds confidence.

What calculator do I need for Exam FM?

SOA permits several financial calculators. The BA II Plus and BA II Plus Professional are the most common choices. Practice with your calculator extensively — exam time pressure is real.

How is Exam FM different from a finance course?

Exam FM focuses on actuarial uses of financial math — immunization, duration and convexity matching, and cash flow analysis for insurance liabilities. A finance course tends to focus more on capital markets and valuation.

How does exclam.ai help with Exam FM?

Upload your ACTEX digital edition, scanned ASM pages, TIA PDF handouts, or your own notes and exclam.ai generates a fully guided study plan: flashcards for formulas, calculator keystrokes, and concept checks. Quizzes target the heaviest sections (annuities, cash flows, immunization) first. The weekly plan adapts based on your performance.
