Practice both applying rules and finding their sections within the time limit. Which MPEP revision does the exam test? Ninth Edition, Revision 01.2024, current through January 31, 2024, plus the other references on the USPTO examination source list. Common guidance is 150-300 hours over 2-4 months. Do design patent practitioners take a different exam? No. Since January 5, 2024 the USPTO admits design-only practitioners, but they take the same registration exam — only the scientific/technical eligibility requirements differ.
